Why a park up would spell disaster for the industry. Parking up - TopicsExpress

Why a park up would spell disaster for the industry. Parking up for a week or two sounds great in theory but would be catastrophic in practise, any pilot who was employed in 1989 will attest to that. The 1989 Pilots strike paralysed the country. Did the pilots win? Not even close. With a disgruntled population and the economy hugely effected, the ALP government brought out the military, chartered overseas plane, and funnelled people onto rail/buses and the country limped on until, to avoid litigation the pilots resigned en mass, to which the Hawke Labour govt responded to by recruiting overseas pilots. So one could see the same happening to truck drivers. First the Military, then rail, and overseas drivers which are far easier to come by than pilots. But the damage done and the publics ill feeling towards pilots lingered long after. Populations dont like being held to ransom and being used as pawns by industries. The transport industry would never recover. We must learn from history so we dont repeat it.
