Why am I not bothered at all about Hong kongs democracy protest? British comedian Russell Brand convinced me that there is no real democracy. Elites and corporates will always end up achieving power and they will abuse power on the common people to build their castles of wealth. Do you remember Western Medias vulgar sensation about Arab Spring? Do you remember how that spring turned into a winter and than bloody coup and inhibition of the right to life for many? Media did not even bothered to report cause democracy get coverage depending on who media like or not. I think we ( conscious people) have to be pragmatic, skeptical and very much suspicious about the objective of media of any country, they play a big role in what Noam Chomsky says manufacturing consent for elites and business corporations. At the days end they (media) do not serve commoners they serve corporations and elites who make money on collateral damages, war, conflict and democracy protest and democracy promotion. However, I am with the spirit of the people who are protesting in the streets of Hong kong but most likely, like every other places in the world they (protesters in Hong kong) would end up achieving nothing. Even if they manage to overthrow the regime they would be colonised and oppressed by new group of elites. Its a vicious cycle and the history of South Asia( specially Bangladesh, India and Pakistan) says so. I think it is everywhere just the pattern of operation differs. There is no real democracy, there is an idea of it. People are largely uninvolved in key decision making process which may change their lives forever. Therefore instead of supporting a fixed paradigm which is being propagated by the media as the solution for all problems of human kind, we have to think of what Russell Brand says Power to the People.
