Why are service standards in Singapore so low? Why do we accept subpar standards? Why do we not place higher expectations of ourselves when we service clients and customers? Its not a matter of pay but personal pride. I think deep down inside we pretend being gruff is some charming remnant of our non-complicated, simpler selves of a time gone by when in reality, the nostalgia is but a poor excuse for being lazy and ungraceful. Compare us to Tokyo or Bangkok, you have to admit the difference is huge.
