Why are we still Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur in many documents also in address prompts online? We need to pursue the corrections needed. In November 2010, I passed city council resolution No. 775 which was unanimously approved earnestly requesting the National Statistics Office (NSO), the Philippine Standard Geograhic Code (PSGC), thru the National Statistics Coordination Board (NSCB), Central Office, the Philippine Postal Office, the Commision on Elections and all other concerned National Government Offices or Agencies, to once and for all categorize Zamboanga City as a “Distict Entity”, as an “Independent City” under Region IX otherwise known as Zamboanga Peninsula and not under the Province of Zamboanga del Sur, considering that it is a Highly Urbanized City. This same resolution was later on reiterated by another former colleague but up to this time, there has been no action on the part of the mentioned agencies. The wrong impression is now world-wide as even online prompts forcefully ask us to select a province and once we dont click on any, we are re-prompted and in most instances will have to click on Zamboanga del Sur just to be able to proceed. Same in most corporate transactions and communications wherein we are wrongfully classified as under Zamboanga del Sur. This error has been there for the longest time and should be corrected now!
