Why do I like Titus Andronicus? Is it because they chose Shakespeares least known play for the name of the band? Is it because their second album is titled The Monitor and has a song named The Battle of Hampton Roads? Is it because in quick succession on one album they make obtuse references to Superman, Blazing Saddles, Scooby Doo and the Battle Hymn of the Republic while ripping of Bruce Springsteen guitar & keyboard licks and playing the electric guitar like bagpipes? Or is it because the fact that the lead singer spouts pseudo intellectual gibberish without even trying to not sing with an accent and little care to meter makes me think of Syd Barrett?
