You want potential perpetrators to know that you are aware that abuse happens, and that you are someone who knows the signs and symptoms, and know how to and plans to report any suspicion of abuse. Just this alone, may deter someone from selecting your loved one for abuse. I call this creating an “atmosphere of abuse awareness and action” . . . most perpetrators would rather avoid such situations and exploit those where there is no talk of abuse awareness and knowledge of and commitment to making reports to when warranted.
