Why do Mormons persist in claiming they have the Melchizedek - TopicsExpress

Why do Mormons persist in claiming they have the Melchizedek Priesthood? And further yet, their missionary force is out there still trying to convince people that there is a need to have the priesthood, this authority to act in God’s name. The missionary discussions promote the idea and force the missionaries to propagate the mistaken idea that Christ’s original apostles had the Melchizedek Priesthood. Mormons use John 15:16 as proof, they say, that shows that Christ laid his hands on them and gave them the Melchizedek Priesthood. They mistakenly assume that the word ordained means a transfer of priesthood authority. However, different Greek words are used in the New Testament, but all are translated ordained in English. The meaning of these Greek words varies from preparation to commitment to evangelize, etc. Also what about this verse Psa 8:3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained. If LDS logic is used here, God gave objects in outer space the priesthood!! Lets take a look at there pet verse in a more modern translation, Joh 15:16 You did not choose me. I chose you and sent you out to produce fruit, the kind of fruit that will last. Then my Father will give you whatever you ask for in my name. Here it is translated as sent out so they could produce fruit. NOTHING about receiving a priesthood is mentioned, reason is because the passage is simply NOT TEACHING such a thing. LDS again abusing NT passages to try and force their view, in a desperate but vein attempt to make their theology appear Biblical. Here is yet another modern translation. Joh 15:16 You did not take me for yourselves, but I took you for myself; and I gave you the work of going about and producing fruit which will be for ever; so that whatever request you make to the Father in my name he may give it to you. but no priesthood was even given this way in the first place! Priests had to be born into the family of Aaron to be priests. In addition to this requirement for the priesthood, it ended when Jesus died on the cross. No one can have what has been abolished by God. Mormons are reading into the passage what they want it to say. Aaronic order was abolished at the cross, sacrifices were no longer required, hence the order of Aaron was no longer needed. Hebrews chapter 7 explains this in detail. Now, for the Melchizedek priesthood, Christ holds it by the power of endless life Heb 7:16. The high priests in the Bible died, which is the reason why it had to continually pass from one to the next. Jesus though never dies, and so for this reason Heb 7:24 states he has an unchangeable priesthood. Unchangeable in this Greek text literally translates untransferable that which cannot pass from one person to another. Why did they use this word? Why is it NOT transferable? Again, because Jesus NEVER DIES!! Thats why vs16 says by the power of endless life he holds it, and thats why it is and always will be untransferable. If the Mormons want it they will have to kill Jesus first!!!
