Why do YOU think third world countries ARE third world? Went to a golf course here in Cancun today and arrived at 4:15pm. The guy that takes the clubs was attending to a group and come over with this Incredulous look on his face and says, are you going to PLAY? We are about to leave as this is the last group. Me: Its 415. Doesnt get dark until 6. I can play 9 holes in an hour. Him, looking annoyed, yes I know you play fast, and he put my clubs into the cart like it was a torture. Then as I am parking the car, I see him go into the office and talk to the girl cashier. When I come back into the office, she looks at me like, why are you HERE. Me: Im going to play. Her: Well, I wouldnt recommend it. Me: Why? Her: Well because it is getting dark soon and there is a lot of Mosquitos and crocodiles. Me: I am aware. Ive played here for the past 5 years. Her: Well its too late to play now. Me: Why, because you want to go HOME? Her (long pause, stymied by the truth of the question): Uhhhhhh, no, not at all (lying to a person that reads souls :) Me: Alright then. Got my clubs and left. Will never go back there. Easily spent 100K there in last 5 years and this new girl and guy that Ive always over-tipped didnt realize that a big chunk of their revenue just left. All because they didnt want to WORK and wanted to leave early. And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is WHY third world countries stay that way, lack of a strong work ethic.
