Why do developers like Linux so much?..... Among other things, developers can recompile the entire Linux kernel and everything in it from source code. That has significant advantages when your business depends on keeping your developers productive and your servers running. In the bad old days, we used to have to open support requests for our operating system vendor, then wait weeks or months to get a fix. Today, you can debug the OS directly and patch the kernel yourself.
