Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” (Psalm 2:1-3) Initially when I read this passage, I think of other people. I think of hostile religious groups, terrorists and especially atheists. I think of everyone else but me. But meditating on it for only a moment, I find myself here too. I have resented Gods rule over my life for as long as I can remember. One of the first things Im sure my mother heard me say was, Ill do it myself. Even as a devoted Christ follower, it is difficult for me to relax and trust God when things dont go my way. I tend to think of myself as the good guy in Bible stories, but the truth is Im a sinner. Im the one who rages. Its me who kicks against the Lord and his Anointed. Scripture is a mirror for me, not somebody else. for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:23)
