Why do they hate US? Not many people will readily recognise the name Warren Anderson or realise that he died couple of months ago at the ripe old age of 99. He was the head of Union Carbide at the time of the Bhopal disaster in 1984 - that claimed the lives of over 10,000 poor Indian, men, women and children because of a toxic chemical leak. Many, many more poor Indians have suffered excruciatingly painful and deadly health conditions - the final death toll may never be fully realised even generations later. Millions of people in Bhopal - survivors, family members of deceased, still the sick and ailing - know the name Warren Anderson very well. But Andersons death in far away USA and in the opulent luxury of a prestigious nursing-home was deliberately unannounced until local media broke the story of the fugitive wealthy man who made his last decades comfortable at his multiple homes in America. In death he seems to have cheated the victims of Bhopal as he cheated them in life by evading justice. Of course, even a man of such corporate standing can only successfully flee international law with the help and support of successive governments of the USA. The same USA that insists its pound of flesh from anyone that wrongs its citizens anywhere in the world has proven to be complicit in the evasion of international justice - not merely complicit but actively conniving in it. Shame on successive US Governments and US Judiciary that protected one of the worlds biggest corporate mass murderers with a litany of excuses year after 30 years. And Americans still naively ask as to why people around the world hate America?
