Why do we have to label everyone? I have had lots of labels in my life. Daughter, granddaughter, niece, girl, sister, wife, mother, friend, SS teacher, VBS worker, tax preparer, daycare worker, shop clerk, committee member, choir member, library aide, sinner, Christian, white, woman... I am a combination of all those things, but they are not me. They do not define me. I am Cindy (so not Cynthia). I am the combination of all my experiences and all my inherited genes and traits; I am not a label. I guess we just want to put everything and everyone into a compact, neat, labeled box; so we can reference them when we need to. Keep them in their place. I do not like boxes, I actually am claustrophobic, I need space and I am not done yet, so I am an open file, not ready to be filed away neatly. I am still increasing and growing and becoming... and you are too. If we do not grow we die. That is a fact of life. I think we should stop the next time we are labeling someone and take a minute to think about how that may make them feel. Some labels are for fun, silly, and done in love, but, some are hurtful and some are mean and some are toxic to others and ourselves. Sometimes the label someone gets early in life stays with them and they do not realize they do not have to live up to their label. We hurt each other and sometimes for no reason, but because it is what we have always done. Stop. Think. Change. Grow. John 15:12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Have a great day. God is Good.
