Why do we push for buying local? For starters, buying local helps the economy in which we most closely live. More money stays in the local economy, rather than going to support distant or foreign economies. Thus, we are able to have more programs and beautification of our city or town, not to mention the job retention and quality from local businesses is at a higher percentage than non-local jobs. In terms of food, buying local means fresher produce, a much lesser likelihood of harmful preservatives being used, and an increased likelihood for better all-round treatment of animals and crops. In addition, more restaurants that are local use local ingredients. Improve OUR economy. Improve OUR well-being. Improve OUR quality of life and the quality of the environmental aspects we care about.
