Why do we work so much on Flexibility in Yoga? • Flexible - TopicsExpress

Why do we work so much on Flexibility in Yoga? • Flexible joints & muscles are at a much lesser risk for injury than rigid stiff ones. • Flexibility improves 24/7 energy [blood supply] to that area. It is through blood that body parts get O2, nutrition & nourishment such as proteins, minerals, water, fats etc as needed. Blood also carries immune / fighter cells to said parts & increase their defenses. It also carries heat / warmth to kill pathogens. • Flexible muscles develop & fill up with protein much faster than stiff shortened muscles. • Flexible blood vessels will allow easy passage of blood all over body & thus prevent blood from exerting pressure on the walls of the vessels. Flexibility also promotes thinning of blood which also gives the aforesaid effect. • MOST IMPORTANTLY WE NEED FLEXIBILITY TO IMPROVE OUR REACH & RANGE OF MOTION IN VARIOUS ASANAS. THEY ARE DESIGNED TO CREATE A CHANNEL / CANAL OF ENERGY TOWARDS A CERTAIN TARGETTED AREA. RIGIDITY PREVENTS THIS & BENEFITS R REDUCED. THUS WE NEED FLEXIBILTY TO GET MAXIMUM EFFECTS OF ASANAS & NOT OTHERWISE. So remember we need flexibility to execute best Performing asanas & not vice versa. Thus it is not an end in itself but a means to an end! Please comment your thoughts teachers / students of Yoga!
