Why does Islam prohibit Gossip Islam is a religion of peace, - TopicsExpress

Why does Islam prohibit Gossip Islam is a religion of peace, lve and compassion. Lies, suspicion, backbiting, slander and gossip are totally alien to Islam. In fact, they are considered amongst the most destructive of major sins. This is so because these sins sow enmity and discord among the Muslim Ummah (nation) and lead to its destruction. They cause hostilities between people of the same household, and between neighbours, friends and relatives. The concept of brotherhood is greatly emphasized in the Quran and in the Sunnah, which shows how important it is for Muslims to be united, to be brothers, friends, allies and supporters of each other, and to avoid disunity and division amongst each other. The emphasis on this concept in the Quran shows how important this issue is in the view of Allah (swt). Allah says (49:10)... ٌ The believers are but a brotherhood. means, all of them are brothers in Islam. There are many Hadiths that emphasize this concept, such as, in the Sahih, The parable of the believers in relation to the kindness, mercy and compassion they have for each other, is that of the body: when an organ of it falls ill, the rest of the body responds with fever and sleeplessness. Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) said: You will not enter paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you lve one another. (Sahih Muslim). He also said: You will not be a believer until you love for your brother what you lve for yourself (Sahih Al-Bukhari). The believers are commanded to preserve the spirit of brotherhood and friendship and to avoid anything that may induce enmity and hatred. He is also reported to have said, Whosoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should talk what is good or keep quiet. [Agreed upon] ... It is narrated on the authority of Jabir that he heard the (Holy Prophet) say: A Muslim is he from whose hand and tongue the Muslims are safe. ... (sahih Muslim) A man is called a Muslim when he declares his faith in Allah’s Unity of Lordship, worship and His Names & Attributes, but he becomes a Muslim actually when he begins to lead his life as a Muslim, as a man of peace from whose tongue and hand all Muslims are safe. It is one thing to enter Islam and quite another to live it. Such life of peace not only raises the individuals character to a high level; it also lays down the basis of a perfect brotherhood. May Allah enable us avoid this vice called gossiping! Ameen.
