Why does Putin feel so strongly about third parties not getting involved in internal conflicts? Think about Chechnya. The Russian province in the North Caucasus tried to break away from Russia, an attempt which Putin defeated with brutal force. With the fate of the Soviet Union and the large diversity in Russia in mind, Putin is determined to strike down every internal conflict and hence he remains a strong opponent of foreign interventions, such as the ones we have seen from the United States.
