Why does Ukraine matter? A simple breakdown- 1) By defaulting on numerous treaties we have made- starting with the 1994 Budapest Memorandum that guaranteed Ukrainian sovereignty and set the borders of the nation, signed by the US, Russia and Ukraine- the US has shown without a doubt to its enemies and allies that its administration and populace are weak and will not back their promises. 2) This, in turn, emboldens our enemies to act, enabling hyper-aggression by conquest-hungry nations such as Russia, China, Venezuela, Iran, and their numerous proxies to act with less and less fear of consequences. Unchecked, this has historically led to further escalation that inevitably ends in a massive continent-spanning war, even world wars. Every. Single. Time. 3) The Ron Paul approach of stay out of it, its not our business is akin to saying Its just the guy down the houses block getting broken into by marauding bands of looters, if we ignore them theyll ignore us. This is the stupid and short-sighted approach people like Chamberlain used, and we see how well that worked out... 100 million dead later. 4) Flip side of the enabling-our-enemies issue is what this says to our allies. They feel they can no longer trust us, rely on us, or that we will be there for them if it is their door that is kicked in. As a result, some of those nations- namely Israel, which is surrounded by nations who want nothing less than to genocide the Jewish people out and seize their lands (and this is from the very lips of the Arab leaders and in their previous actions of the past three wars they kicked off trying to wipe Israel off the map), and Eastern Europe, who the US has already thrown under the bus a few years ago when the Obama administration yanked the defenses we were building there with no solid basis in strategy or geopolitical common sense- will feel cornered and possibly act on their own. This has the potential to further destabilize the situation and escalate it into a greater, broader conflict in theaters nowhere near Ukraine. 5) NATO has become very fragile as a result of American and European weakness in the face of naked aggression. It has been fighting in third-world backwater countries and second-world collapsed states like Yugoslavia for so long, it has been slapped hard by the open threat presented to them by an expansionist first-world nation. Metaphorically-speaking, NATO- the US in particular- have spent decades kicking half-blind puppies that they have forgotten what to do when a mastiff jumps out in front of them, steals something from them, and growls challengingly. This is the make-or-break situation as to whether NATO will still exist in 18 months. If Russia invades further into Ukraine- which they are almost certain to, as they have massed over 100,000 troops and several tank divisions on the border- it will show NATO to be a weak paper tiger. If they invade Estonia- which they are also poised to do and show a significant likelihood of doing- they will have invaded European Union- and thus, NATO- territory. If NATO does not act militarily to stop such an act of overt war on its member states, it is finished. 6) The collapse of NATO will leave only the burgeoning Sino-Russian alliance as the big power block, with their satellite proxies in Latin America and Iran. This will, to put it in simple parlance, mean that the bad guys will be the power brokers over the whole damned planet. Aggressive power-hungry nations with civil rights records on par with 1930s Germany do not restrain themselves when in such positions, nor will they cater to the naive wishes of the Ron Paul isolationists. They WILL aggressively invade or conquer through economic and political control everyone around them. The US will be seen as the major block to that, and they WILL knock it off the playing field, likely with a combination of proxy-state terrorism, orbital EMP strikes (which we know both Russia and China have the capability of), and cyberterrorism to devastate the US logistics and infrastructure network. Three hundred panicking people falling into civil unrest as the power, financial, communication, information, medical, food and fuel transportation, and general infrastructures all collapse overnight will keep the US off the playing field for eighteen-twenty-four months, minimum. THIS is why you should be VERY worried about what is going on in Ukraine. It has the potential to be an Archduke Ferdinand moment of the 21st century. Unfortunately, the script is written and the majority of you all are playing your roles of ignorant self-absorbed plebeians more concerned with the pebble in your sandals than the collapse of the state. The majority of you are doing precisely what people like you did every time before, leading to two world wars and the deaths of hundreds of millions. The blood of what is to come will be on your hands as much as on those of the politicians and leaders of the actors in this if you continue down that road. Raise awareness, ride your legislators to take action on this, educate the sheeple around you and stop using the excuse of it doesnt affect me. Because when it finally does, you may not survive the result.
