Why does the English (or French) spelling of my last name seem so hard for so many Lebanese educated professionals? For goodness sake it is AL-CHAER: Al-Chaer on my passport, Al-Chaer on the Internet, Al-Chaer on all documents official and unofficial! It is NOT Chaer it is NOT El-Chaer It is NOT Shair It is NOT Al Shair For 22 years in the US, people may have butchered its proper pronunciation but never its spelling!!! A year plus at one of the most prestigious academic institutions in Lebanon and I cannot get repeated users to spell it properly!!!!!
