Why does the Star matter to God? Why make it in the first place? Why recall it to mankind now? Some ideas: 1) it introduced Jesus, 2) it ties Him to space and time and history, 3) it shouts God’s sovereignty, 4) it’s in our sky and belongs to all mankind, 5) it mocks the idea that God and science are at odds, 6) it wakes our attention skyward so we don’t miss signs, 7) it induces an awe of God we rarely experience, 8) it encourages believers and challenges those He is calling, 9) it is a compelling story, 10) it is beautiful, showing that He is beautiful, 11) we may be nearing an epoch change on His calendar, 12) I could go on, but what do you think? Pray with me? “Father, your thoughts are not ours. We love learning of you and your ways. We also sense that as creatures we may not fully “get it,” as we understand other things. You are “other.” And yet, you care about us. With King David, we marvel. Thank you for the sign of the Star. Please help us understand at least a little of what you are doing now. Are the coming blood moon tetrads your clarion call? Lord, our minds are so small, would you expand us? Help us spot your meaning in what is about us. As your small creatures, we do not expect to understand everything, but we long to understand more! Open our minds and hearts, Dearest One. We ask it in the name of Jesus, amen.” Rick
