Why dont more medical schools accept based on emotional intelligence? Self awareness and empathy If we accept people into medical school based on science GPA, MCAT scores, organic chemistry,etc...does it surprise us that doctors are not empathetic? Yet doctors take care of other people... What the public expect from doctors is not what they were selected for.... Its no wonder doctors have such a high rate of divorce and drug abuse. See the disconnect? If I was the dean of admissions...I would look at students with good grades (doesnt have to be the highest) but also that exhibits sig. Degrees of self-awareness and empathy. They will be better doctors, fathers, members in society... In order for healthcare to transform, we need to transform the mindset of the physician.
