Why have I switched to the Liberal Democrats platform? There - TopicsExpress

Why have I switched to the Liberal Democrats platform? There are plenty of reasons why I cannot support other British parties any more, merely for the sake of Great Britain, and I decided to describe them briefly and concretely. First and foremost, one mustnt forget how valuable the Common market is for Britain. It does make difference for the UK - there is simple access to the largest trade markets in the world, British people wouldnt otherwise have, EU business-oriented projects (Enterprise Europe Network, for instance) stimulate growth of innovative British companies by giving them access to economic partners and distributors from the continent or by direct EU funding, equal legal standards simplify business regulations, and therefore, contribute to economic growth; minimum 3 million jobs are directly dependent on trade operations with Europe, there is no end of benefits for British businesses. Quit from the EU will mean the end of membership in the single market - growth of unemployment, possible stagnation, exports reduction, reduction in the British businesses competitiveness. Secondly, global influence of Britain would also be diminished. The UK now accounts for less than 1 per cent of the worlds population and less than 3 per cent of global income. Each year that goes by, these numbers shrink a little. British people will find it increasingly hard to get their voice heard on topics that affect prosperity and well-being of nation. So its a geopolitical question - do you want a Little England, a country of regional significance, or a Great Britain? Thirdly, EU is not that costly as UKIP supporters and some conservatives claim - British annual budget contribution, after taking account of money transferred back to the UK, is £8.3bn. Thats around half a per cent (0,5%!!!) of the GDP, or £130 per person. Furthermore, EU migrants are more skilled than average British people (32 per cent of recent arrivals have university degrees compared with 21 per cent of the native population), they are young and have great potential, these immigrants do contribute to the prosperity of the entire nation. I am one myself and my objective is to integrate and to pay my moral debt to the country that accepted me. Last but not least, EU has its problems and disadvantages, but its possible to fix them, so that Britain profits even more from the membership and preserves its influence in the world. Angela Merkel, for example, stated clearly that she is ready to work together with David Cameron to make EU less bureaucratic and more competitive. #LibDems #BetterIN
