Why is Facebook so popular? Because people hunger to feel connected. Facebook helps to ease the loneliness. The problem is that its a quick fix. As soon as you log off, the loneliness is back. I believe the connection we truly crave is the connection with Allah, even if we dont realize it. Its that sense of inner peace that comes with salat, fasting, dhikr (remembering Allah), reciting Quran... You cant replace it with Facebook, or with food, fun, parties, work, television, or games. Its a unique, special connection built into each of our souls. Next time you get that FB craving, try praying two rakaat, and reciting the Quran for a few minutes. Say Laa ilaha-il-Allah a hundred times, or Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi. I think that will satisfy your heart in a way that FB never can.
