Why is Veterans Day on November 11th? Veterans Day was originally Armistice Day to celebrate the end of WWI or The War to End All Wars (Nice sentiment) on 11/11/1918 at 11am. WWI has become the forgotten war of the twentieth century even though it set the tone for the next hundred years: Communism in Russia and the Cold War, the rise of Hitler, Japanese Imperialism, the independence movements in Africa and Asia including the Independence of India and creation of Pakistan, the creation of Iraq… More than 16,000,000 people died including 110,000 Americans and lets not forget the genocide committed against more than 1,000,000 Armenians. In the words of Harry Patch the last British Veteran of WWI on the Western Front War is the calculated and condoned slaughter of human beings
