Why is a great warm up VITAL to getting a great workout? 1. It enhances your actual workout performance. Warming up increases blood flow to your skeletal muscles! It also increases your body temperature, which contributes to faster muscle contraction and relaxation. Basically, your muscles work more efficiently when theyve had the chance to warm up! 2. Warming up helps prevent injury! It is much more challenging to injure a muscle that has gone through a warm-up process. Additionally, studies have shown that sudden, high-intensity exercise without a warmup displayed abnormal electrocardiogram changes that were attributed to low blood supply of the heart muscle! Eek!!! Get your warm-up in, no matter how little time you might have! Your body will thank you! Heres a great one to start with! 1. Jog in place for 30 seconds 2. Jumping jacks for 30 seconds 3. Arm windmills forward for 30 seconds 4. Arm windmills backward for 30 seconds 5. Side lunge and reach (right) for 30 seconds 6. Side lunge and reach (left) for 30 seconds 7. Toe touches for 30 seconds
