Why is a non-profane, perfectly correct and reasonable descriptor - TopicsExpress

Why is a non-profane, perfectly correct and reasonable descriptor of a person sometimes considered offensive (especially to the one being described)? I am not a racial minority and therefore do not understand the offensiveness of racial slurs-I would probably just laugh at you if you called me a crackerand am not referring to that type of descriptor; Im talking about labels given to individuals of different political ideals. If you subscribe to the ideas of Karl Marx, how can you be anything other than a Marxist (socialist)? I have been told that I use the word liberal as a knife to attack those with said political views and I cannot fathom the reason it is upsetting. My political views are conservative or libertarian and you could call me either all day and it would never offend me so it makes no sense for you to feel verbally accosted when I do the same to you. I would feel that you have accused me of being something I am not if you were to call me liberal, but it is illogical for those of a political stance to refuse to be called what they are. I am not referring to you as something that you have not openly admitted to being such as a bigot (as liberals are so fond of referring to me), so proudly accept the title of liberal as I invite you to call me a conservative.
