Why is government against developing other areas of Maldives? Why is government promoting centralistic policies while challenging local governance? Currently the only way to stop local tourism is by limiting number of inhabited islands. There are over 230 guesthouse with nearly 3000 beds in over 60 inhabited islands of Maldives. The guesthouse industry is worth over a billion rufiyaa now. It is expected to reach over 1000 guesthouse with over 10,000 beds in over 100 islands in next 5 years. This industry could be worth over MVR 5 billion in next 5 years. Such an industry directly benefitting locals would liberate them from economic slavery. Thus economic freedom will reduce corruption & money in politics. This will change our whole political scenario and we believe there is no other reason for population consolidation policies getting an unusual boost suddenly.
