Why is it that most people and many Christians focus on external - TopicsExpress

Why is it that most people and many Christians focus on external sin? It seems that people are so quick to judge and gossip about other peoples external sin. This has always bothered me, because I feel that internal sin is just as important (if not worse), yet it is ignored. I have been in the Word, and found numerous scriptures that deal with sins of the heart. Two chapters I love are Matthew 15 and 23 when Jesus teaches about inner purity and when He criticizes the religious leaders. And I think the religious leaders could apply to any Christian. Matthew 15:11 It is not what goes into your mouth that defines you, you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth. Wow! Now verse 16 Dont you understand yet? Jesus asked. Anything you eat passes through the stomach and goes to the sewer. But the words you speak come from the heart -that defiles you. I am not saying that is okay to out whatever you want in your mouth. But I love the point that Jesus himself makes here. Matthew 23:25-26 What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are filthy -full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too. I think we need to pray for lost people, not gossip about them or judge them....and make sure out heart is right....just a thought. :)
