Why is it that people think you are being rude if you dont agree - TopicsExpress

Why is it that people think you are being rude if you dont agree with them and you passionately express your opinion? Do people think that in order to be polite we have to pat each other on the back and pretend that a point of view is ok when it is so wrong and so offensive in our eyes. Even if you just say you think some idea is moronic, some people think you are being rude. Isnt that what freedom of speech is all about, expressing your point of view? Having the right to say I think that idea is stupid, and it does not represent my point of view? How did we get to a place in society that we are all expected to just swallow our thoughts on something we disagree with just because people only want to hear agreement with their view. This has become more common recently, and slowly but surely we are training each other to only speak what the crowd approves of, to squelch individual thoughts, and toss out our right to our own point of view. How sad that people dont welcome a challenge to their viewpoint anymore. This is how we learn and grow, by listening to other points of view and trying to understand them, and accepting those points that have validity. We stay closed minded and ignorant when we refuse to listen to viewpoints other than our own.
