Why is it that the CEO of a non-profit receives absolute scrutiny - TopicsExpress

Why is it that the CEO of a non-profit receives absolute scrutiny for a high salary when CEOs of for profit entities make that 10 times over? There is a reason non-profits are still necessary, and that is they are not treated like a business. For a business to succeed and produce change, you must invest to see a return. I pose this question. Why would the most talented business people decide to become the CEO of a non-profit making an average of $85K when they could make an average of $400K with a for profit, and then donate $100K of their salary (still making over 3 times that of their non-profit counterpart) to make more of a monetary impact and receive the praise as a major gifts donor? openchannel.nbcnews/_news/2013/06/10/18869742-susan-komen-ceos-salary-draws-fire-as-donations-drop-races-are-canceled?lite
