Why is it that we often allow history to repeat itself in this country. What happened in Rivers State House of Assembly yesterday where a group of 5 members attempted to impeach the Speaker reminds me of a similar incident that happened in my home state, Ogun State where the state assembly could not sit for six months due to failure on the part of the Honourable members to conduct themselves in a civil and respectable manner. That ill fated scenario consequently plunged the state into crisis which lasted for months and that had a adverse effect on the economy of the state and eventually contributed to the defeat of the then ruling party in the state i.e. PDP. It is high time our elected representatives begin to act and be seen to be responsible, responsive and truly honourable in both character and utterances. To me, if Nigeria is country where rule of law is respected, the constitution is truly supreme and to serve as deterrent to others that may want to toe same part of dishonour; those 5 members of the state house of Assembly in Rivers should by now be under the long arm of the law and be made to account for their misdemeanour without any fear of favour.
