Why is it, when I am asked about my life and my past that, when I - TopicsExpress

Why is it, when I am asked about my life and my past that, when I answer, I am either not believed, or accused of bragging? I want to say, well, you asked…. I have gotten in the habit of choosing ONE THING, and even then, I don’t share all of it… I am simply not believed. I have wonderful, talented parents, through whom I have had MANY opportunities that most people simply didn’t have. Through these opportunities I have been able to accomplish almost everything I have ever dreamed of accomplishing. Why? Because I was determined to do so. I have two things left on the list of dreams I wrote when I was 19, and I am on the brink of accomplishing those two things. I have been (and in some cases still am) – a martial arts teacher, a kickboxer, an actor, a stunt choreographer for the stage, a model, a dancer, a singer and musician, a Pentecostal preacher, an Anglican Priest and now Bishop, a Daoist teacher, a published poet, short story writer, and artist, a Special Education teacher, a college professor, and a theologian. I have met, befriended, and worked with actors, professional musicians, filmmakers, activists, professional sports figures, and world-changers. Some of my missed opportunities are choreographing the actions scenes in a horror film (I moved to Lamesa, Texas instead), auditioning for Cirque Do Soliel (one of the greatest regrets of my life is that I did not show up for my audition), recording an album (again, I never showed), finish my studies for Zen priesthood (which I may still do one of these days)… and on… And yes, throughout all this time my family lived bellow the poverty line, was homeless more than once, and had other “not-fun” issues. None of this is a lie, and none of this bragging, it is not even the whole story. I have lived an exceptional life because exceptional people surrounded me. My parents were professional musicians and met and worked with a number of people in the industry (and they were GOOD!!!). My father was passionately involved in the Native American community of the San Francisco Bay Area, and in that capacity met, befriended and worked with a plethora of politicians, musicians, sports figures, and film celebrities. Through my father and his friends I was able to meet and train with some of the best martial artist in the world. This was my life. I am not ashamed of it, and I shouldn’t have to hide it just because someone thinks I am bragging or exaggerating. I am doing neither; I am trying to share my life with you. So please, if you ask about my life and my past, understand that I will not lie to you. It may sound extraordinary, but it is still my life…
