Why is the CDM role so important? And especially in a team like Barcelona? Heres my opinion on the question! Well you see CDM is the position in the field just behind the central Midfielders. In Barcelona, Xavi Iniesta and Rakitic are the ones in the central midfield. They are the once responsible for all the creativity on the field. But just behind them, theres a player quietly dictating the tempo of the game. No one generally realise it. He is the one who is responsible for almost 80% of the attacks Barcelona does. He is the one who is the first one to stop counter attacks from initiating. That difficult and yet the most overlooked position is usually filled by two classic players in the form of Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano. Barcelona is lucky to have two of the best CDMs in the world in their team. What makes it much more important for Barcelona is the fact that at Barcelona, the full backs are involved in almost all attacks. Which leaves just two centre backs in the defence. The CDM usually stays behind and help in the defense and the two centre back system changes to three centre backs. This pivot is very important for the team to function properly. Barcelona is lucky to have two such pivots who can replace each other at any given time. Something we saw yesterday, though not playing much at the CDM position, Mascherano bossed it. He attacked well. He defended well. His long balls were beautiful. All in all, even if Busquets doesnt play in El Classico, Mascherano Is there to fill his shoes. And he will do a great job just like he did at Liverpool and he does for Argentina on a regular basis. #VamosMasche! #GWS_Busquets! #VisçaElBarca ❤ -sk!
