Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. -Psalm 42:11 Pessimism and Christianity dont mix. Why? Because Christians have every reason to be optimistic about life here on earth and life eternal. Sometimes, despite our trust in God, we may fall into the spiritual traps of worry, frustration, anxiety, or sheer exhaustion, and our hearts become heavy. Whats needed is plenty of rest, a large dose of perspective, and Gods healing touch, but not necessarily in that order. Today, make this promise to yourself and keep it: vow to be a hope-filled Christian. Think optimistically about your life, your profession, and your future. Trust your hopes, not your fears. Take time to celebrate Gods glorious creation. And then, when youve filled your heart with hope and gladness, share your optimism with others. Theyll be better for it, and so will you. But not necessarily in that order.
