Why parties are fielding film stars? ....................................................................................... Is there a shortage of honest politicians? As i remember the whole Indian political system started with the struggle against British and those who were in the forefront became the founder members of the political parties barring for of course communists. Then there were some who were carrying on social work, these people were nudged by public to represent them. The system ought to have been that. This disease of film star or cricket star contesting was contained in TN and AP but now it is spreading like wild fire in Northern and Eastern states too. Somehow it was not much in Bengal but this time round the Bengal has joined the bandwagon of latching on to glamour. The candidates either gets vote because of his own credential or because of the charisma of the leader or the performance of the party. In the second case the candidate becomes a rubber stamp. I am forgetting the name of the politician of the Hindi belt,could be Lalu, who said ;agar mai kisi khambey ko khada kardu to woh jeet jayeyga. Somehow i feel that fielding glamour is like charity ball for voters. The unsuspecting glamour struck voters get suckered in , it assumes the fall of average intelligence of Indian voters.
