Why "residue" may matter more in this case than DNA. Attorney - TopicsExpress

Why "residue" may matter more in this case than DNA. Attorney David Weinstein Opines: "Just saw a tweet about no DNA on the gun. As a prosecutor, one of my favorite responses to a defense attorney’s argument that their client’s fingerprints weren’t on the gun/knife/car/window was that we don’t need the fingerprints if we have the fingers. What will be more relevant here is gunshot residue analysis. It might play in to establishing just how close they were when the gun went off and what position the gun was in when it was fired. Were they struggling over the gun? Has anyone asked whether or not Zimmerman or Martin’s hands were swabbed for gunshot residue? Gunshot residue refers to the powder that is relapsed form the bullet through the gun when it is fired. Less from a gun like the one used here then you would have form a revolver. BTW, wet conditions will affect the amount of residue left behind."
