Why the rise in anti-vaccination? My armchair take: Rise in Access to Info * Ignorance of Probabilities (ability to calculate a simple expected utility) generates a rise in free riding among people who pursue information (which rises in income and education). The fact that the arguments in favor require one to move from individual utility to societal utility and back to individual level utility makes the argument hopelessly complex to follow. Given that we elect public officials who set policies, I dont see this improving any time soon.
