Why the two parties turn me off...the The Cato Institute said it best: The battle for a free society is won or lost on the basis of the philosophical underpinnings of the policy proposals put forward. The left-wing mantra of “we’re all in this together” is a lame philosophical cover for the idea that we all have to be in the same health plan, the same retirement plan, the same educational system and pretty much all have the same level of wealth. It is a system that has been tried in the past and found wanting, to say the least. Then there is the redistributionism. When House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says “we just want the rich to pay their fair share, one is tempted to say that she is calling for tax cuts for the wealthy. Surely the top 1 percent paying 40 percent of all income taxes is not fair.” And Conservatives, the philosophy of nationalism – the influence of neocons calling for American empire (and the inevitable loss of thousands of young people’s lives and hundreds of billions of dollars) has way too much sway. Conservative intolerance toward lifestyles of which they don’t approve and seeming indifference to the plight of millions of immigrants who have come here to improve their family’s lot in life have understandably turned off millions of independent voters, many of whom are actually libertarians.
