Why vest extenders? Is there a “real” reason for bikers wearing vest extenders? It is an interesting question. Some people would say that bikers wear vest extenders because their favorite vest has become too small. The vest extenders are purchased to lengthen the life of a beloved piece of riding equipment. It is my experience that others simply buy vest extenders as a way to display their pride in military service, fraternal organization, or even just a love of motorcycles. I can’t disagree with any of these explanations of why people use vest extenders. Some customers have come into the store asking about vest extenders because they feel their vest is preventing a full range of motion while riding their motorcycles. My recommendation for vests is they must be large enough as to not bind the person in the armpit area, fit over the normal clothing worn while riding, and cover the body from approximately from the upper back down to the belt line. Nothing is more shocking than executing an action on your motorcycle and discover that you can’t move as quickly and freely as would be comfortable. This is obviously a case for utilizing vest extenders to extend that range of motion and I whole-heartily recommend the rider purchase vest extenders of their choice to provide a full-range of motion and comfort. Vest extenders are also purchased to allow the rider to wear bulkier clothing, like a jacket, under the vest during colder months. This allows the rider to continue to display any patches already sewn on the vest while having an extra layer of protection and warmth provided by the vest. It also provides versatility during the cold night, warm days riding season where the rider can simply wear the vest during the warm day and add their jacket or hoodie under the vest at night. How about summer riding? Many things can be annoying during summer riding like bugs, lack of sunscreen, and heat radiating from the engine. It would be even more annoying if your vest was flopping around in the breeze during a ride. The solution? Vest extenders. Vest extenders are a versatile and important addition to a biker’s gear. They have valid uses in all riding seasons. The great part is they can be added, changed, or simply removed based on the riding weather and biker choice of look and utility.
