Why were followers of Jesus Christ able to perform miracles? Many times when I read my Bible I am in awe of the miracles that Jesus and His followers performed. They healed the sick of all manner of sickness and disease, cast out demons out of many afflicted people, they spoke in tongues, and Paul even had a viper fasten itself onto his hand after a ship wreck, which he casually shook off into the fire he was warming himself by. So, you may be wondering, why were these men able to perform the miraculous? Many preachers will say that it is because they were all Apostles and that people this day and age cannot do the wonderful acts that they did back then. This is a lie. Stephen was able to perform miracles. As it is written: Acts 6:8 (KJV) 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. Stephen was not an Apostle. In fact, that is one reason the 12 Apostles chose him for the work of waiting on tables. As it is written: Acts 6:2-5 (KJV) 2 THEN THE TWELVE CALLED THE MULTITUDE OF THE DISCIPLES UNTO THEM, AND SAID, IT IS NOT REASON THAT WE SHOULD LEAVE THE WORD OF GOD, AND SERVE TABLES, 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. 5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and THEY CHOSE STEPHEN, A MAN FULL OF FAITH AND OF THE HOLY GHOST, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch: Again, Jesus sent out seventy disciples to preach for Him, and even they could perform the miraculous through the Name of Jesus. As it is written: Luke 10:17 (KJV) 17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. We find out later on that a lot of these people didn’t even follow Jesus until the end, because He gave them a hard teaching that they could not understand. As it is written: John 6:66 (KJV) 66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. So why were these men able to perform the miraculous? The reason God works miracles through people is to give His seal of approval of the message they are preaching, and to confirm that they are preaching the True, authentic Word of God. As it is written: Acts 14:3 (KJV) 3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. And in: Acts 8:5-6 (KJV) 5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. Jesus said that those that BELIEVE in Him would have these signs with them. As it is written: Mark 16:17-18 (KJV) 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. If your church is not showing these signs, are they truly preaching the True authentic Word of God? Aren’t they showing an immense lack of faith and calling Jesus a liar? One truly must ponder this... Romans 3:4 (KJV) let God be true, but every man a liar;
