#WhyImafraidofbuhari# (17) In its 2014 report titled “Infrastructure 100 World Market Report, KPMG, the worlds number one professional investment advisory firm listed two of President Jonathan initiated projects amongst the worlds 100 super infrastructure projects . In the report, the KPMG has this to say about one of the projects: “The Nigerian government is set to build the 3,218 kilometer network, which will be a major boost to the economy, connecting Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Warri, Bauchi, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. The system will be digitally operated using fiber-optic cables, radio communication and wireless services. Judges appreciated that the project, which will remove heavy freight from Nigeria’s stressed roads, could save the country millions on road maintenance.” The project agreement has been signed at a cost of $13 billion dollars and widely applauded by international media houses like The Economist and The Financial Times. The rail has a design speed of 120km per hour and will have 54 sub stations across the project route. Apart from the huge economic gains, the project will create 300,000 jobs for Nigerians. The contractors have commenced preliminary works on the project billed to have 54 sub stations across the country, connecting east and west with north and south in a maze of railway travel. In 1985, General Buhari took over power and met Lagos State under Lateef Jakande attempting to build what is known as the Lagos Metro Line. He first of all threw Lateef Jakande into jail. He then cancelled the project stating that the cost was too high. This was strange since the project was to be funded by the Lagos state government and an international financing company. Even when he was told that the Lagos state government will suffer huge financial loss for backing out of the project General Buhari insisted on the cancellation . As a result , the Lagos state government incurred a loss of $78 million dollars as at 1985. This never bothered Buhari. Till date he still insists that his action was right. I dont need a prophet to tell me, but if Buhari becomes President in 2015, the Lagos-Calabar high speed rail is gone. Nigerias contribution to the project will be lost too. May God help us think with an open mind devoid of sentiments and emotion . God bless Nigeria.
