Wider sidewalks and better pedestrian access spur more private investment by businesses—just another reason to vote YES on 2B. From the National Complete Streets Coalition report: Lancaster, California added pedestrian safety features as part of a downtown revitalization effort, including a pedestrian-only plaza, wider sidewalks, landscaping and traffic calming. The project spurred $125 million in private investment, a 26% increase in sales tax revenue, and 800 new jobs, after a public investment of $10.6 million. the tl/dr on this is that for roughly every dollar spent by a city on complete street improvements such as those in Wheat Ridges 38th Ave. Corridor Plan, ten dollars are invested by the private sector, with increases in sales tax revenue and jobs to boot.
