Widespread labor violations by employers in the garment industry - TopicsExpress

Widespread labor violations by employers in the garment industry cost workers millions of dollars a year in unpaid wages. In the last fiscal year, our Wage and Hour Division conducted 221 investigations in this industry and recovered more than $3 million in unpaid wages for 1,549 workers. That amounts to an average of $1,900 per worker, or five weeks’ wages for a typical sewing machine operator. Enforcement matters. It is essential to creating shared prosperity and building a strong economy that works for everyone.
