Widespread showers across Queensland and more storms to come Sam Brown, Thursday November 21, 2013 - 14:25 EDT A broad low pressure trough over Queensland has caused widespread showers, stretching from the far west to the far north. Mareeba received 25.6mm of rain to 9am, its heaviest rain in 7 months and heaviest November rain in 3 years. Walkermin has had its highest three day rainfall total (53mm) since April this year. In the far west of QLD, Camooweal received its first drop of rain (3mm) since July. However, this is quite dry compared to last year, as last November had already seen 18mm by this point. While in the far north of the state, Coen airport received 18mm over two days (20th and 21st), making it the heaviest rain in 7 months and heaviest rain for November in 3 years. Today, showers are likely to continue in northern parts of the state with thunderstorms extending from the Gulf to between Townsville and Cape Flattery. Isolated thunderstorms are expected along much of the ranges. The trough will deepen and move further east over the coming days, increasing the chance of thunderstorm development and rain potential. Widespread rainfall is expected again tomorrow, with the southwest of the state the only area to remain dry. Thunderstorms should accompany this system, although more likely along the ranges and southeast, spreading closer to the coast on Saturday. - Weatherzone © Weatherzone 2013
