Wikipedia: Preterist “Preterism is a Christian eschatological view that interprets prophecies of the Bible as events which have already happened. Daniel is interpreted as events that happened in the second century BC while Revelation is interpreted as events that happened in the first century AD. Preterism holds that Ancient Israel finds its continuation or fulfillment in the Christian church at the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. The term preterism comes from the Latin praeter, which is listed in Websters 1913 dictionary as a prefix denoting that something is past or beyond, signifying that either all or a majority of Bible prophecy was fulfilled by AD 70. Adherents of preterism are commonly known as preterists.” More interesting to me is this paragraph in the section “History of preterism: “There has historically been general agreement with non-preterists that the first systematic preterist exposition of prophecy was written by the Jesuit Luis de Alcasar during the Counter Reformation.[9][10] Moses Stuart noted that Alcasars preterist interpretation was of considerable benefit to the Roman Catholic Church during its arguments with Protestants,[11] and preterism has been described in modern eschatological commentary as a Catholic defense against the Protestant Historicist view which identified the Roman Catholic Church as a persecuting apostasy.[12] “ In the section Full Preterism: “Full preterists argue that a literal reading of Matthew 16:28 (where Jesus tells the disciples that some of them would not taste death until they saw him coming in his kingdom)[48] places the second coming in the first century. This precludes a physical second coming of Christ. Instead, the second coming is symbolic of a judgment against Jerusalem that is said to have taken place when the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in AD 70.[49] For this reason, some people also call full preterism The AD 70 Doctrine.[50] Full preterism is often referred to as hyper-preterism by its detractors.[51] Full Preterism is considered by many evangelicals to be outside of Christian Orthodoxy.” I would first like to deal with this preterist view that they seize upon in Matthew 16:28: “Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.” Matthew 16:28 Now it seems to me that the key word in this verse is the word coming. Preterist use this word to deny that the transfiguration in the following verses(Matthew 17:1-9) is the completion of this prophesy. I say that the transfiguration is the completion of this prophesy and Id like to explain why to all my preterist friends. Matthews account of this is not the only account. Most scholars concur that Mark is the earliest gospel account and that both Luke and Matthew borrowed heavily and outright copied from the book of Mark. Lukes account: “27But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. 28And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. 29And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. 30And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: 31Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. 32But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. 33And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. 34While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. 35And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. 36And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.” Luke 27-36 So we see in Lukes account that the wording is a little different, they shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God(Yehovah). If we go back to Matthews account we see that what they saw was a vision: “And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. “ Matthew 17:9 And now to the source, Marks account: “1And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. 2And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. 3And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 4And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. 5And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 6For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. 7And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. 8And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. 9And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. 10And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.” Mark 9:1-10 So here in Mark, which I consider the source, we find that the wording here is yet different again from Matthew and Luke. They shall not taste of death till they see the Kingdom of God(Yehovah) come(not Jesus coming) with power. So what can be the conclusion? Did the disciples see the Kingdom of Yehovah come with power before they tasted death? The disciples saw Jesus(Yehoshus), Elias, and Moses in their glorified state; that state that is to be given to all the saints at the last trump. Glorified humanity in their new immortal physical body. The disciples heard the voice of Yehovah declaring, affirming and admonishing the disciples that Yehoshua is His son: “Hear him”. Then what should we be hearing” from Yehoshua, the Son of Yehovah? Shouldnt it be his gospel message? What then is the gospel? Yehovah declared it: “For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith Yehovah, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith Yehovah. And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.” Isaiah 66:22-24 Yehoshua(Jesus) preached it: “Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Mark 1:14,15 Yehoshuas disciples preached it: “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.” Luke 9:2 Philip preached it: “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.” Acts 8:12 Paul preached it: “And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God..” Acts 19:8 I, Daniel, will preach it: “Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead? “ Acts 26:8 “And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.
