Wild dogs are highly social animals and do everything - TopicsExpress

Wild dogs are highly social animals and do everything cooperatively, from hunting, sharing food, to caring for sick or injured individuals and raising young. This teamwork is also what makes them such successful hunters, and enables them to bring down prey much larger than themselves. Wild dogs constantly reinforce their social bonds and promote cooperation through physical contact, licking and vocalisations. This is especially pronounced before a hunt when the entire pack greets, licking and leaping around each other while “yittering” excitedly. In addition to this bird-like twittering sound, they also communicate with a high-pitched submissive whine, and an owl-like “hoo-hoo” (a hoo-call) that is a long-range contact call and carries for 2-3 km. When alarmed or threatened they use a gruff bark. Have a listen to the video below to hear Tui’s pack yittering while they greet!
