Wild weather has ravaged South Australia, with Wallaroo copping the brunt of the damaging wind overnight. Wind gusts of up to 100kph caused localised damage at Wallaroo on the Yorke Peninsula, with the State Emergency Service responding to dozens of call outs in the region. About 30,000 lightning strikes were also recorded across the state. The weather bureau has maintained a severe wind warning for some areas on Thursday evening, but those conditions are easing. It has issued the warning for the following areas: metropolitan Adelaide, Mount Lofty Ranges, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Mid North, Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of the Flinders and North East Pastoral districts. “Squally showers and thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging wind gusts in excess of 90 kph in the warning area over the next several hours,” a warning issued at 3.45pm read. “Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Maitland, Clare, Mount Gambier and Murray Bridge.” An earlier thunderstorm warning issued for the Lower and Eastern Eyre Peninsula has been cancelled.
