Wildfire Fact Sheet- Trail Fire Summary: Firefighters initial attacked this fire using air tankers dropping retardant to hold this fire in check until firefighters could be flown into the area. The fire is currently staffed by 15 firefighters. Dixie National Forest Fire Management Officer Kevin Greenhalgh stated “Aggressive actions were taken to hold the fire in place due to high potential for it to grow and move into some very rough, inaccessible ground which would have been very risky for firefighters to work in.” Start Date: Sunday July 7, 2013 Location: Dixie National Forest, Pine Valley Wilderness in Washington County, Utah Jurisdiction: US Forest Service: Pine Valley Ranger District Fire Size: Approximately 2 acres. (Note: one acre is equivalent to one football field). Cause: Lightning. Fire Behavior: Individual tree torching, creeping Closures: none Structures: None Threatened Percent Contained: 0% Fuels: Mixed conifer trees, heavy dead and down materials. Fire Crews/Resources: 15 firefighters, 2 Type III Helicopters, 1 Air Attack Platform and multiple air tankers Evacuations: No evacuations are currently in effect.
