Wildlife experts are on the tantalizing trail of what they believe to be a gray wolf living near the Grand Canyon, an area where this species hasnt been seen since the 1940s. Photographs show that the canine is wearing a collar similar to those worn by wolves reintroduced into the Rocky Mountains in 1995. Young wolves can roam incredible distances from their birthplace to establish their territories. DNA obtained from the animals droppings is being analyzed to determine whether the animal is a gray wolf, a Mexican wolf (a rarer subspecies) or a wolf-dog hybrid.
