Will General Mohammadu Mohammed Buhari be Nigerias Mayor of Casterbridge? The full title of the novel is The Mayor of Casterbridge: The Life and Death of a Man of Character. A man of character was a man who was prominent and respected in society. With this meaning in mind, describing Henchard as “a man of character,” is both accurate and ironic. He holds the important position of mayor in Casterbridge for most of the novel. However, this position is, in many ways, one of which Henchard is unworthy. His secret past wrong is concealed from the inhabitants of Casterbridge and when the furmity-woman reveals the story of Henchard selling his wife and daughter, Henchard’s popularity declines rapidly from that day onward. For General Mohammadu Buhari, what is so difficult about producing a certificate or requesting for a CTC from WAEC?
