Will I be lost if I die n not confess my sins? Do we need to - TopicsExpress

Will I be lost if I die n not confess my sins? Do we need to confess our sins. Lets look at the most powerful statement in the bible about this. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When I had fundamentalist lenses I saw this statement as a law. If we dont confess we are not forgiven and not saved. 5 years ago I abandoned this idea. Instead I put on radical evangelical grace lenses and concluded that this verse was only talking about the need for unbelievers to confess sin in order to be forgiven and so saved. Both ideas were built on a legal model of forgiveness. Unless this law of confession was conformed to then a person remained unforgiven and lost. 3 years ago I changed again. I maintained that God had already forgiven humanity all its sin on the Cross he did so objectively but the subjective act of confession was the way to receive what God had already provided. But it was only unbelievers that needed to do this to get saved. A legal economic transaction colored all of this. 2 years I went further. I saw that the word confess simply means to acknowledge or agree with. So if an unbeliever agreed with God that they were a sinner that this then resulted in forgiveness n salvation. Still very legal. Now I see this verse differently. It builds on where I was already heading So how do I understand this verse now? Next time ....
